Welcome to the Haffmuseum
The Ueckermünde Haffmuseum (Museum at the Lagoon) is one of the major sights
of the town of Ueckermünde. It is located in the palace in the old part of Ueckermünde
just next to the city harbour. The Museum attracts visitors right from its entrance,
which is of architectonic interest due to the late Gothic frontispiece of the stair
turret with its rich and decorative bar tracery and a sandstone relief showing the architect
of the palace, Duke Philipp of Pomerania. After climbing a newel stair, the visitor reaches
the Museum. The exhibits shown here focus on four main fields:
- finds from pre- and early history,
- local history,
- main sources of employment (foundry, brick making,
fishing, shipping) of the Ueckermünde area and
- exhibits from homes and the crafts of most
different epochs.
As a special feature, the palace tower is involved in the
exhibition area of the small museum. The viewing floor of the tower offers a magnificent
view over the town of Ueckermünde and the beautiful lagoon landscape. |
